Report to Members of the Brevard County Commission
on Mental Health and Community Solutions
re 19 February 2004 Workshop
by  Leigh Holt, Strategic Planning Manager

(26 February 2004)

THANK YOU!

Many of you participated in the jail tour and/or attended the jail workshop last week and stayed for the full morning.  Chief Rumbley was finally called to the podium just after 12:00 and, as usual, he did a great job representing you and explaining your goals for the jail.

Your recommendation at the last meeting to create a video was brilliant.  Commander Altman narrated the 4 minute film that was produced by the SCGTV staff.  It graphically showed "the true picture" and the seriousness of the situation.

The workshop continued for most of the afternoon and, in the end, your input  was clearly taken into consideration.  Commander Altman was asked to bring back a proposal for capital and operating expenses for the proposed 256 bed, minimum security facility.  He was also asked to report how the forensic inmates will be impacted and served.  In addition, The Board voted unanimously to extend the CMHCS for two years.

Sub-committee meetings are being scheduled to continue your efforts and we will keep you posted on the jail plans as they are developed.  The next commission meeting is tentatively scheduled for:
